Community Impact

We want to be part of something bigger than ourselves, and we seek students who want to be part of something bigger than themselves. Through our partnerships, community engagement, educational programs and the reach of our graduates, we improve the health and well-being of citizens in Ohio and in communities across the nation, especially where care is needed most.

Social Return on Investment

In FY 2023-24, the Heritage College collaborated with the Voinovich School of Leadership and Public Service to conduct a social return on investment study on Community Health Programs. The study revealed that every dollar invested in our programs yields a return of $32.55 to $32.84 in social impact. This equates to $62,966,453.26 to $63,533,393.77 generated in the region in 2023 alone.

New mini mobile unit added

In FY 2023-24, the Heritage Community Clinics expanded its reach by adding a new mini mobile unit to its fleet. At 27 feet, the new unit, which will provide free medical services in Southeast Ohio, is smaller than the two 40-foot units the clinic already operates. The smaller size will allow it to navigate rural roads and access isolated communities.

Feeding the Community

The Heritage College Community Clinics offered services in eight counties this year, including 83 primary care clinics and 10 diabetes clinics.

In FY 2023-24, the Community Health Programs Food Pantry provided food assistance for 1,161 households, serving 2,85 individuals. The pantry distributed the equivalent of 42,780 meals. A total of 206 people served as pantry volunteers, including students, faculty and staff from the Heritage College and across Ohio University, COMCorps members and community members.

Family Navigator Program Reaches 216 Clients

The Family Navigator Program provided 216 clients with pregnancy-related services during FY 2023-24. Of the 136 infants born during the year, 93.4% were considered full-term, this exceeds the state Medicaid-eligible births during a similar time-period. Thanks to grant funding from the Ohio Department of Health, Cribs for Kids® and Safe Sleep, 55 clients were provided with Baby and Me Tobacco Free™ incentivized smoking cessation counseling services and 80 families received Safe Sleep education and Cribette™.

Heritage Community Clinic

With primary care services offered across 24 counties this year, 6,481 patients were seen across 7,947 visits to the clinic. This included 315 primary care visits, 452 adult health screenings, 245 specialty visits and 123 nursing visits. These visits took place in our brick-and-mortar Heritage Community Clinic and aboard our mobile health units.
