We provide students with opportunities that can change them as people. Our graduates are prepared to lead and succeed in any health care environment because of the powerful education they receive at the Heritage College. Our investment in training the next generation of physician leaders addresses anticipated physician shortages and health care needs in chronically underserved communities across Ohio and throughout our nation.

Inaugural Inclusion Graduation Celebration

The Office of Inclusion hosted the inaugural Inclusion Graduation Celebration event at Heritage Hall during the 2024 commencement season with 17 students participating and over 150 loved ones, faculty, staff and alumni in attendance.

Second PreDOC Conference held The second annual PreDOC Rural Conference was held in May 2024. The program was extended by another day and a second overnight. The event provided 30 participants an opportunity to engage with medical morphology faculty, COMCorps volunteers, CTAC experiences, learn about rural medicine research, a Q&A with a rural family physician and meet clinical partners from OhioHealth O’Bleness hospital.

First cohort of Transformative Care Continuum completes residency

The Transformative Care Continuum (TCC), with support from Cleveland Clinic, hosted a celebration of the TCC program and the first cohort of students from the program to complete residency. Administrators, faculty and staff from OUHCOM, Cleveland Clinic Akron General and Cleveland Clinic Lakewood Family Health Center along with the seven graduates of the program gathered to enjoy an evening of fellowship and to reflect on the creation and evolution of the TCC program.

Continuing education The Consortium for Health Education in Appalachia Ohio serves as the continuing education office for Heritage College, supporting the educational needs of a variety of health care providers, including but not limited to Ohio University faculty and staff, community physicians and health care professionals, alumni, preceptors and clinical faculty in our affiliated hospitals and clinics throughout Ohio. It is an accredited provider of continuing medical education through the American Osteopathic Association and a provider unit of the Ohio Nurses Association. In 2023-24, CHEAO offered 27 continuing education events; 21 events provided nursing CE, three events provided continuing medical education and three events had both CE and CME. A total of 575 participants were awarded 2,374 hours.

New surgical anatomy course offered

Jodie Foster, DPT, created and implemented a pilot surgical anatomy course for Heritage students who matched into OB-GYN residencies to provide a focused experience in related anatomy to better prepare our soon-to-be graduates for their new programs.

Prematriculation Program The Summer Pre-matriculation program is a four-week program that prepares HCOM Post Baccalaureate participants and other mission-aligned students for a successful transition and completion of year 1 of medical school. The goal is to promote academic, career and personal success by helping to reinforce strategies that promote life-long learning through early exposure that will prepare them to meet the rigorous demands and challenges of medical school. 2023-24 saw the largest group in the program, with 26 total participants.
