Heritage College has a new academic home on the Athens campus. Heritage Hall, the $65 million facility, opened its doors on Aug. 19, 2021, making possible innovative, purpose-built spaces for medical education.
The design fundamentally changed the way the college will work and improved research and community outreach efforts. Funding for the project came from multiple sources, including $21 million generously provided by the Osteopathic Heritage Foundations as part of the OHF Vision 2020 award. The building design works in concert with Heritage College and its Pathways to Health and Wellness Curriculum, to push the boundaries of modern medical education. The three pillars of osteopathic medicine – mind, body and spirit – are fundamental to the building design, expressed beautifully through its openness, infusion of light and a focus on wellness that fosters collaboration, connectivity and physical activity.
An Environmental and People Friendly Facility
Heritage Hall Received LEED
LEED certified buildings save money, improve efficiency, lower carbon emissions and create healthier places for people. They are a critical part of addressing climate change and meeting environmental, social and governance goals, enhancing resilience, and supporting more equitable communities.
WELL Certification
WELL is a research-backed system for measuring, certifying and monitoring features of building environments that impact human health, such as air and water quality, nourishment, light, comfort, and support for physical and mental fitness. By designing to WELL Building Standards®, the Heritage College’s wellness philosophy will be imbued into its learning, teaching and working environment. If successful in achieving WELL certification, Heritage Hall will be the nation’s first WELL medical education facility. Heritage College has applied for the certification and is expecting acceptance.
