A Note from the Executive Dean
"We are providing care where care is needed most. "
AY 2021-22 was a year of major milestones at the Heritage College!
We kicked things off with the opening of Heritage Hall, the $65 million academic home for students on our Athens campus. The new facility features innovative, tech-enabled, purpose-built spaces for medical education, which have fully enabled our novel Pathways to Health and Wellness Curriculum.
We grew our National Institutes of Health (NIH) funding significantly, retaining our status as No-3 among all colleges of osteopathic medicine in NIH funding. At the same time, we laid the groundwork for a new translational research building, which will support human subject research and foster university-wide research partnerships, while including space for community health and basic research.
We celebrated the graduation of a truly exceptional class: Not only was our Class of 2022 the first to train under our novel Pathways to Health and Wellness Curriculum, they also achieved a 98% residency placement—the highest match rate in our college’s history!
The year also featured an incredibly successful accreditation review by the Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation. I take tremendous pride in our attainment of ‘Accreditation with Exceptional Outcome,’ which has provided the college with 10-year accreditation status.
The accomplishments noted here and on the enclosed pages are but a small sampling of our collective achievements over the 2021-22 academic year. Together, they paint a picture of incredible impact.
Through these successes, we are preparing future generations of osteopathic physicians to address pervasive healthcare needs; we are enabling innovative research that will drive medical advances; we are shaping global dialogue on some of the major health challenges of our time; and perhaps most importantly, we are providing care where care is needed most.
As you engage with our 2021-22 Annual Report, I hope you will share my pride in the many milestones achieved during a most memorable year at the Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine.
