Heritage College Jumps 26 Spots in National Ranking
Ohio University’s Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine was named first in the state of Ohio and 14th in the nation for most graduates practicing primary care by U.S. News and World Report. The college was also ranked 21st in the nation for most graduates practicing in rural areas and tied for 78th for 2023 Best Medical Schools: Primary Care, up from 104th in 2019. The rankings comprise all M.D. and D.O. programs in the nation.
Tuition remains stable In FY 2021-22 the college did not increase tuition. The college’s multi-year financial planning process and fiscal prudence contributed to a zero percent tuition increase allowing the college to strengthen its financial performance and increase student affordability.
Society of Alumni and Friends Stethoscope Program
Over 65 Alumni and friends donated nearly $20,000 to provide the gift of a stethoscope to each incoming first year student during orientation week. Students were informed who the stethoscope was from and wrote personal thank you cards to each donor.
Nandyal Named National Student Doctor of the Year
Samantha Nandyal, OMS IV, was selected as the 2022 National Student Doctor of the Year by the American Association of Colleges of Osteopathic Medicine. The award is given to students who go above and beyond the expected requirements of an osteopathic medical student. Nandyal has served as a Rural and Underserved Scholars Pathways Scholar, Primary Care Associate, Student National Medical Association diversity and inclusion officer and Future Physicians for Patients co-president. She is also a founding member of both Generational Health, a group dedicated to creating safe and open conversations about health in underserved communities, and Behind the White Coat, an annual storytelling project designed to shed light on the humanism of medical students.
The Osteopathic Heritage Foundations support Heritage College student scholarships, totaling $777,391. Other scholarships and grants totaled $95,458, not including an additional $2 million in Student Affordability Scholarships.
New Outreach Program Implemented
Dublin Assistant Director of Admissions and Outreach, Terry Porter, developed and implemented a new admissions outreach program, PreDOC, to further connect with over 100 from early assurance program (EAP) partner schools, undergraduate students, pre-med clubs, and advisors to strengthen pipelines and enhance recruitment strategies to establish diverse class cohorts. Utilizing distance learning technology, all campuses were able to participate in this new program. Additionally, a separate EAP Leadership lecture series was established to further engage pipeline/partnering EAP students at all program sites.
